WOW !!! What a great race to open the 2009 season.
Apart from the race points I have also to award 20 points to my driver of the day.
It was a difficult choice to make as there were several contenders.
Jenson done nothing wrong all weekend and flew from lights to flag nursing his Brawn GP car in the final laps as his soft tyres were going off. But the introduction of the safety car after Kubica and Vettel (3rd/2nd) hit each other trying to catch the Englishmen allowed Button to ease off and protect his rubber finishing the race behind the safety car.
Trulli and Glock had to start from the pit lane after stewards penalised them for illegal rear wing infringments. They stormed through the field and Trulli would have finished on the podium if he hadn't have overtaken under the safety car. A schoolboy error that cost him a 25 second penalty from the disgruntled stewards demoting him to 12th.
There were many other worthy candidates.
Sebastien Buemi in his rookie F1 race finishing a very creditable 7th and picking up his first ever championship points, and Rubens following Jenson from the front of the grid also didn't put a foot wrong.
But my 'Driver of the Day' for the Australian GP goes to Lewis Hamilton.
In an extreemly underperforming Mercedes McLaren his started from the back of the grid after a gearbox failure stop him setting a time in Q2 and then the changing of it pushing him down 5 places on the grid.
In a car that had nothing compared to those around him, he showed great skill and determination battling through the pack in a faultless drive to take 3rd place and a podium place that even he must have thought impossible when the red lights went out.
But more importantly he took the (what could turn out to be very valuable) 6 points that went with it.
All off the Malaysia at top speed for back to back races.
Will the contraversial rear difussors prove a touch again for Brawn, Toyota and Williams and will the design please the stewards?
When will other teams 'copy' their inivation ? Will they wait for the FIA to make a decision or will it be too late by then.
It's all going on in what is (In my opinion) the most exciting start to a Grand Prix season that I can remember.
I can't wait for the next weekend in Malaysia.

Don't be dismayed at good-byes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again.
And meeting again, after moments or a lifetime, is certain for those who are friends.
