Day 1 .........Wednesday 14th October 2009
Leaving the heat and blue skies of Spain behind we jetted towards the Emerald Isle with the hope of success in my heart, the expectance of continued drizzly rain on my mind but very much filled with the warm anticipation of meeting with forum friends, some for the first time and others who are old acquaintances.
The Ryanair 'trolley-dolly' came by and Mrs Aegis ordered a black coffee, well I knew we were near to Ireland when the hostess asked if she wanted milk with it .......''to be sure to be sure''.
The landing was good and we taxied towards the stand when suddenly a blast erupted from the aircraft speakers. Da da da da daaaaaaaaaa ''Ryanair are proud to announce that yet another flight has arrived on time''. Well it scared the blooming life out of me. ''Ryanair have the best record for arriving on time with 95%..........'' bla bla bla bla bla.........
I was waiting for a long red carpet to appear as the Queen herself emerged from the flight deck announcing she was our mystery pilot and thanking us for flying Windsor airways. But no, just some commercial babble pat on the back for the corporate moguls to reveal in and giving them fuel to hoik up the fares next time around.
Anyways, the previous day I received a phone call from 'D' (robertbh) offering to meet us and drive us to where we were staying (at a friend's place far from the airport). Having never been to Dublin before I graciously accepted but was more looking forward to meeting her at last than the lift itself.
Not to be disappointed we were met by a huge smile and a big hug (don´t tell the witch shhhhhhh) and that was to be just the start of a trip full of fun, friendliness and laughter that has forever been embedded into my soul.
We were staying with a friend on the South side of the city and with the International footie match on that evening, the traffic was horrendous for 'D' and her very helpful SatNav. 'D' kept taking alternate routes to avoid the jams much to the dismay of the lady in the SatNav who continued to inform us that we were going the wrong way. Not perturbed by the 'ladies' remarks, 'D' disregarded her instructions and weaved through town.
' After 100 meters turn left' it ordered her, next left approaching and.......NO LEFT TURN sign. 'You have made an error' she blurts 'Please take the next left, then left again'
So next left approaches and..........yes you guessed it, no bloody left turn allowed again, and so it continued, ever decreasing circles with fear of disappearing up our own exhaust pipe. But we did eventually negotiate the streets of Dublin and arrived at our destination where 'D' added an item to her Christmas pressie list.............an updated SatNav.
So we were here, in Dublin and first job on the agenda was to sample the local brew. So more hugs and kisses for 'D' and she headed home, through all that traffic again, THANKS 'D' the lift was much appreciated, you are a diamond girl, but then, everyone already knows that.
Off to Temple Bar, Guinness and live music..... de diddly dum de de, de dum............wahoooooooooooooooooooo
Stay tuned for the next exciting episode of .................
Aegis Does Dublin 2009
Don't be dismayed at good-byes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again.
And meeting again, after moments or a lifetime, is certain for those who are friends.
