Day 2 ..... Thursday 15th October 2009
The day before all the action starts in the poker room so it's sightseeing time:
The Dublin Tour: Hop-On, Hop-Off bus.
There are many buses that travel the city streets all on the same route ferrying tourists around to the main talking points of Dublin. Each driver is a trainee comedian as well as knowledgeable guide and craic starts before you board the double-decker. The ''Friendly and Fun'' combination was once that we were to be witness to many times on this trip making it memorable above others.
1st stop The Guinness Store:
A visitation to the Guinness Factory culminating with a pint in the skyscraper bar. They should let you buy more though, after all that walking the first pint didn´t last very long. Never mind, I managed to sniff out the nearest pub only 5 mins walk away and one of the best Fish 'n' Chips I´ve had washed down with a couple of glasses of the black stuff served by a guy wearing a Liverpool shirt, No it wasn't Loopy.
Kilmainham Gaol (or Jail to us English):
The biggest unoccupied jail in Europe and our start to a lesson in recent Irish history that was fascinating as well as intriguing and left me wondering why the folk of Dublin didn´t just spit in my English face on sight after how my ancestors had treated theirs not so long ago.
But no.......we were welcomed everywhere we went and it was a genuine welcome, not the kind of 'plastic' hello or 'have a nice day' that is so commonly thrown out to patrons especially tourists in anticipation and hope of your trade or a nice tip for service rendered, this was real Irish hospitality the kind of which I have never experienced before and will stay in my heart for ever.
Anyway, the jail was fascinating as was the information passed onto us from the highly skilled and educated tour guide that showed us around. She had a true passion for her job and took great pride in 'educating' people in the history of the Jail, Dublin and Ireland.
I got on blinding with her and I formed a very close bond with her, but even after much begging and what I thought to be an extreemly good argument pro my situation, she still would not let me leave Mrs A in there overnight.

Off the bus and onto shank's, we meandered around town popping in and out of a few shops. Then after hanging around outside a few churches whilst Mrs A was inside doing whatever she does in there, we wandered down to The Liffy, took a few pics and slowly strolled home taking in the atmosphere of the place.
Out in the evening for some more Liffy water and reading for meeting the gang tomorrow.
Oh. almost forgot, I was handed my 'Aegis Reunion Party 2009' polo shirt from 'D' yesterday and it was really cool. what an honour to be named for this event, thanks guys, made me feel special.
And 'D', I did hear about the 'Men's bum competition' you girls had, I wondered what had kept you lot amused for so long.
So, the next episode is from the hotel, Day 1a of the tournament and we all meet up for the first time. Join me tomorrow for more news and views from The Emerald Isle
Don't be dismayed at good-byes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again.
And meeting again, after moments or a lifetime, is certain for those who are friends.
