Tavelli Doubles through Akenhead

Maybe James Akenhead would have been better served to show up fifteen minutes late insted of just three minutes late.

He opened a pot to 260,000, then called when Ian Tavelli re-raised to 750,000.

On a queen-high flop, {Q-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {7-Clubs}, Akenhead checked to Tavelli.

Tavelli made it 1.5 million to go and then snap-called when Akenhead moved all in.

Akenhead: {K-Diamonds} {K-Clubs}
Tavelli: {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds}

Akenhead found himself on the wrong end of rockets less than fifteen minutes into the day.

No help on the turn {6-Diamonds} or river {7-Hearts} for him. He had to pay off 4.305 million to Tavelli, leaving himself with just 2.8 million. Tavelli is up to about 10 million.

Leo Margets Eliminated in 27th Place ($352,832)

There will not be a woman at the final table of the Main Event this year.

After Warren Zackey opened the pot to 350,000 preflop, Leo put all of her chips at risk and shoved all in.

Zackey called with {A-Hearts} {10-Hearts} and found himself in a dominating position against Margets' {A-Spades} {7-Hearts}.

Leo was left looking for running cards after a flop of {4-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {10-Spades}. She didn't get them.

The turn and river fell {4-Hearts} and {2-Clubs} to make her the first eliminated player of the day.

Esfandiari Flop Raise Stops Kopp

Billy Kopp opened with a raise to 300,000 from the hijack seat, Antonio Esfandiari called from the button, and the blinds got out.

The flop came {6-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}. Kopp continued with a bet of 500,000. Esfandiari paused about a half-minute, then slid out two tall stacks of green chips, a bet of 1.9 million total.

Kopp contemplated for another half-minute as Esfandiari looked in his direction. Finally Kopp folded.

Esfandiari chips up to 5.45 million, while Kopp is still in second place with 14.95 million.

Buchman Folds to River Shove

Eric Buchman played possum on all streets against Jonathan Tamayo. Buchman, with position, called a raise to 305,000 preflop, a bet of 550,000 on the flop, and another bet of 870,000 on the turn.

At the river, with the board showing {5-Spades} {6-Hearts} {4-Spades} {3-Spades} {A-Hearts}, Tamayo moved all in. Buchman instantly folded his hand, then said, "I thought I had you before that river."

Buchman is down to 8.1 million chips. Tamayo is up to 5.3 million.

Begs Bags One

Ludovic Lacay opened with a raise to 300,000 from the hijack seat, Steven Begleiter called from the cutoff, Antoine Saout called from the small blind, and Kevin Schaffel also called from the big blind.

The flop came {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}, and all four players checked without much hesitation. They also rapidly checked the {7-Spades} that came on the turn.

The river brought the {8-Spades}. Saout checked, Schaffel bet 750,000, and Lacay folded. Then Begleiter raised to 2.25 million. Saout quickly folded, and after a bit of thought Schaffel let it go as well.

"Begs! Begs! Begs!" cried Begleiter's rooting section in unison. He's up to 12.7 million now.

Ship it to the Moon

Darvin Moon limped in from early position, Andrew Lichtenberger completed the small blind and Marco Mattes checked his option.

Lichtenberger checked the {6-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} flop, Mattes checked, and Moon bet 500,000.

It was enough to chase away both opponents and Moon took it down.

Jesse Haabak Eliminated in 26th Place ($352,832)

Action folded around to Jesse Haabak. He open-shoved his diminished stack. Warren Zackey was sitting with the button, looked down at {A-Clubs} {K-Diamonds}, and made an easy call.

Haabak showed down two live cards, {Q-Hearts} {9-Hearts}, that were significantly less live after a flop of {10-Spades} {K-Hearts} {A-Spades}.

Haabak needed a jack or running trips.

He was booted to the rail in 26th place when he got neither, bricking the turn {5-Diamonds} and river {3-Hearts}.

As a result of that pot and a few other small pots, Zackey has more than 10 million chips.

Crafty Limp Yields Pot for Moon

Darvin Moon limped in from UTG, Andrew Lichtenberger limped on the button, Marco Mattes completed the small blind and Joseph Cada checked his option.

The flop came down {9-Hearts} {9-Spades} {5-Diamonds}. Moon bet 300,000 and all three opponents called.

The turn was the {3-Hearts} and the action was checked to Moon, who bet 700,000.

Lichtenberger called, Mattes folded, and Cada let it go. Heads-up to the river, which came the {10-Clubs}.

Moon led out for 1,000,000 and Lichtenberger called.

Moon revealed {A-Spades} {A-Hearts} in the hole and took it down.

Re-Balancing

Because the first two players eliminated were both from the same table, tournament staff had to break a player off of one of the other tables.

Players at Table 1 were not thrilled to see chip leader Darvin Moon show up with rack after rack after rack of chips.

He's now in the 1-seat formerly occupied by Jesse Haabak.

Don't be dismayed at good-byes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again.

And meeting again, after moments or a lifetime, is certain for those who are friends.
